Velux Window Stunt Leverages Instagram

CapturFiles-Oct-01-2012_04.19.32.jpg

As part of a project at The Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design, Andrew Spitz and Kat Zorina developed an Instagram-based campaign for VELUX windows. Working with the knowledge that when people look up through a VELUX skylight, the have to stand a certain way. The pair called this “the VELUX pose.”

To capture the VELUX pose, Spitz and Zorina crafted a device that would hold an iPhone to that people would have to look up at it. They then placed the device on the streets of Copenhagen and took pictures of people. Those whose pictures were taken could then use a connected iPad to upload images to their Instagram account and tag then with #theveluxpose. Currently, there are 55 images with that hashtag on Instagram.

We can envision a campaign like this getting some fairly decent traction with more devices and more resource. We’re sure Spitz and Zorina would love to help.

Samuel L. Jackson Says ‘Wake the F#&K Up’ to Obama Supporters

CapturFiles-Sep-27-2012_08.25.58.jpg

Oh it’s funny when Samuel L. Jackson says, “Wake the fuck up.” But it’s even funnier when an eight year old girl screams it out the window. That’s basically the scenario of this Jewish Council for Education and Research-funded pro-Obama video featuring none other than the motherfucking king, himself, Samuel L. Jackson.

Outdoor balloons are Great for Branding your Business

Outdoor balloons are great for branding your business.

Outdoor balloons are great for branding your business, whether a big business or whether a small business, these balloons have a tremendous impact.

Make the most of any occasion.

Whether you are having a brand launch or a special event or just about anything and you want to get the maximum notice-ability for your business, then you can make sure that you get all the attention that you want by advertising on giant balloons outdoors.
Advertising on giant balloons is extremely popular with both big as well as small advertisers for the simple fact that this is one advertising vehicle that people just cannot resist looking at.

Making outdoor balloons in big demand for advertisers

Most advertisers are now well aware of the fact that the conventional advertising vehicles like TV, radio, billboards, magazines, newspapers, etc., just do not work anymore. People are not at all responsive to advertisements in these media. Plus, it costs a fortune to advertise in conventional media and if people are not going to watch the ads after so much money is spent, it just makes no sense at all to advertise in such media.
But with giant balloons, it is a different story, people just love looking at these balloons and will do so whether they are cooking, working at home or in the office, playing or walking in the park, driving by, etc.

Outdoor Balloons Get You Noticed!

Why do people like balloons?

Most people tend to associate balloons with fond childhood memories and so whenever they see a giant advertising balloon they love to look at it.
This is why these giant advertising balloons are such a great opportunity for advertisers. People look at these balloons and that means that they see the advertisement on the balloon. This is just great for advertisers as they can actually get the attention of people by using these giant balloons.

All the attention needed

A great plus with using these giant balloons for advertising is that advertisers can get all the attention that they crave for. This can be done by making the big balloon as unique as possible. The more unique the balloon, the more the attention the advertiser will get because people, just love looking at new things.
Thus, you can make a big balloon as unique as possible and be sure that you are going to get attention to your business. For example, suppose you sell bikes. You can thus get outdoor balloons made in the shape of a bike and have your brand name or shop name and telephone number on it. You can be sure that in this way you would be getting all the attention that you want for your business.

Here’s a job (probably an easy one) for the guys over at Who Is That Hot Ad Girl. And this girl is an actual ad girl. As in one that makes ads, not just appears in them. This video is Deutsch LA’s entry into LA’s AdJam 2012 which takes place this Thursday at House of Blues.

In the video, entitled Helvetica, the agency rocks out to KISS’s I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night.

HealthNet Uses Fake Tweet on Billboard to Promote Site

healthnet_billboard_fake_tweet.jpeg

It seems that no amount of publicized social media faux pauxs let alone general marketing faux pauxs over the past hundred years are able to prevent other brands from becoming bumbling idiots ripe for ridicule. Today’s marketing dunce cap goes to Health provider HealthNet which saw fit to use a fake tweet on a billboard (spotted in Portland, Oregon) to promote its site.

The tweet, “Affordable, fits my biz needs – smart health plan #healthnetcares,” reads as if it were written some social media buffoon with just enough pompous “guruism” to convince his clueless superiors “this will be a really cool billboard!”

The account from which this tweet emanated is a protected account with zero tweets, zero followers and a zero follower account. Whether or not HealthNet created this account or simply chose a dead account is unclear at this point. Either way, it’s a juvenile marketing move and yet another example of testimonials gone wrong.

Are there really people this stupid working in marketing?

Shopper Card Miraculously Improves Animal Life

CapturFiles-Sep-21-2012_12.37.29.jpg

We like Psyop. We like Clemenger BBDO. We do not like this new work the pair created for New Zealand-based shopper card, Fly Buys. Why? Because it makes no sense. Now, to be fair, we’ve never used a Fly Buys card so we may not completely understand its magical qualities but we’re pretty sure sliding a piece of plastic through a card reader isn’t going to make some animal’s life more enjoyable. But, hey, that’s just us.

Watch the spot and see if you can feel it.

Warby Parker Debuts First TV Commercial

warby_parker_tv_ad.jpg

Online eyewear retailer Warby Parker is out with an oh-so-British themed TV commercial, the first for the brand. The cheeky ad, created by New York shop Partners & Spade, borrows imagery from 1950’s magazines as well as collections of Victorian wallpaper, Japanese architecture and textbooks.

Now if only they could do progressive lenses.
